The ZB-26 was originally of Czech design, though the design was considered so good that it ended up being purchased by the British and was used as the template for the British BREN gun, and later for the Type 96 Japanese light machine gun as well. The ZB-26 was so similar to the BREN gun that it has even been referred to as the first BREN gun.
